Iguazu Falls, Argentina
IGUAZU FALLS, from the Argentine side. In the native language, Iguazu means "great waters". The falls were discovered by Europeans in 1541. They have been a natural world heritage site since 1984. Without question, the Iguazu Falls are one of the top five sights in South America. We have now visited the Falls twice in our quest for unique images in our fine art landscape photography galleries.
There are three circuits for completely different views of the falls on the Argentina side. The mini train and half mile footbridge to the spectacular Devil's Throat is a multiple visit must see especially if you happen to be there when there is a full moon. With mist rising over 400 feet, photography is difficult, particularly lengthy exposures at night under a full moon. We have one very unique image in the gallery from our full moon excursion to the Devil's Throat. The upper and lower circuits both provide unique perspectives for our digital landscape photography with up to 300 waterfalls (depending on water flow).
In late 2011, Iguazu Falls was selected as one of the New Seven Wonders of Nature. Although the airlines (LAN Argentina and Areolineas) can be very unreliable, in our experience, they are much preferable to the 15 hour bus ride back to Buenos Aires that we endured on our last visit.
Our hotel choice for both of our visits was the IGUAZU GRAND RESORT SPA AND CASINO - http://www.iguazugrand.com. It is no longer part of the Leading Hotels of the World, but we presume the fine staff is still there.
