The trip from Lhasa to the Mount Everest North Face Base ( elevation 17000 feet plus) camp takes a number of days in a motor vehicle. We even had someone crash into us on the primitive roads. The accommodations and food were very poor for the most part. However the scenery , Buddhist culture , and the adventure were unforgettable. And , the ever present armed Chinese control ( ex. image ME 106 - special check point to turn off for Mount Everest Base Camp) is unsettling .
